Should Warner Bros. reboot the Superman franchise? – Part 5

From a business standpoint I would say this sounds like a good idea. There are plenty of die-hard Superman fans out there that will shell out $12.50 to see this one. However, we as a society should be pretty outraged that the lack of creativity and new ideas in movies produced nowadays. Every other movie out there is a remake or a remake of a remake. If only somebody could come up with some new material we could all go on with our lives a little less bored. As a kid I loved Superman because who didn’t? But you all know as well as I that with age comes disappointment and I feel that most of the films put out nowadays seem rushed, with plots and twists strewn about in a predictable manner. I can already tell you the plot summary: ‘The world will be in great danger due to a famous super villain striving for financial gain, thus putting Lois Lane in danger and the only person capable of saving her is Superman. It’ll climax where you think Superman fails but he doesn’t and he will save the day and Lois. The end’

Perhaps if they approach it in a whole new way that nobody sees coming, while at the same time maintaining the essential elements and attributes of Superman. Even some closure would be nice for me. An attempt at making this the final one by making it the one where Superman finally dies. Anything to force production companies to produce something new rather than regurgitate and imitate what has already been done. This is the reason I enjoy and respect movies such as The Dark Knight because it is a brilliant interpretation and remake of a classic while straying away from the typical boring story.

Another movie that attempted to do this was The Incredible Hulk. The director in this case seemingly wanted to completely do away with the other one. In other words, to pretend as though it never even existed. This is because he knew how bad that first one (Hulk) was and wanted to stray away from that boring and a little ridiculous script. I mean there were mutant dogs for crying out loud. Come on if you’re going to remake a 70s remake of a comic then at least follow some guidelines.

Therefore I say, no, the Superman franchise should not be restarted because if we as a society keep paying to see regurgitated bologna then they’re going to keep pumping them out for us to pay for. I’m all for a new Superman movie, if and only if they can approach it in a whole new way perhaps even a little post-modern.
